Whilst The D-Day Story was closed during lockdown, staff members were able to go inside to record special guided tours of the museum, to show you what there is to see on a visit.
A whole series of virtual tours were then published on social media, each going through different part of the museum (which themselves focus on various aspects of the operation).
The very first covered preparations for D-Day - take a look here:
If that has piqued your interest, head over to The D-Day Story website, where you can find a whole host more information about the Normandy Landings and those involved. The Collections section catalogues all the items in the museum collection, with information about each one. Take a look through to see the huge number (not to mention vast variety) of items maintained by the museum.
It's also your opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of the museum stores, as many of these items cannot be on display as there's simply not enough room for them all at The D-Day Story.
You can also get involved in the D-Day Story Community Map, where you can submit your own designs, doodles and photographs. There's a creative pack to download with full details and some material to get you started.
One of the city's biggest events during 2020 was the arrival of LCT 7074 to Southsea seafront, following its huge restoration project by the National Museum of the Royal Navy. Following a few delays as a result of the pandemic, the craft arrived into Southsea in late August, before being moved to its new home outside The D-Day Story.
To mark its arrival, museum created a series of videos, focusing on the communities across Britain which played a pivotal role in its fascinating story, as well as interviews with some of the veterans who served on board.
You can watch all the videos on the The D-Day Story website.
For more information from the museum, follow its Facebook and Twitter pages. It's also where you see all the upcoming events at the museum for your next visit.
