About
Oakley began in a garage laboratory in 1975, when a mad scientist named Jim Jinnard developed a new kind of motorcycle handgrip. Jinnard's creation had a unique tread for a secure grasp. He also utilized a new material dubbed 'Unobtanium' that was engineered to become sticky when wet. Thus began the start of a revolution. Today, this grippy material continues to be used on many styles of eyewear for convenience, comfort and grip, and was responsible for kick starting the Oakley brand.
