About
Groundlings Theatre Tours offer an experience like no other!
Guided by costumed actors, you will step back in time to learn the extraordinary history of the Grade II* listed building - which dates back to 1784 - and the surrounding Portsmouth area. You'll even get to meet some of the many characters who have walked through the doors!
Originally the Portsea Beneficial Society Building, housing one of the first three schools grounded in the UK, the Groundlings theatre has so much to discover - whether it be the occasions Queen Victoria was a guest, Prince Albert's affection for the building, or the interesting tale of a Nazi Sympathiser climbing on its roof. Its theatre tours are a must-do for history buffs, culture vultures and inquisitive minds alike.
Operated by The Groundlings Theatre Trust. it's Portsmouth's only fully producing theatre, staging up to ten in-house productions a year. This Theatre Tour will not only give you an insight into the building's wonderful past but also its glorious future, as you will also get to see the happenings of a working theatre.
Have a group interested in having a tour? The Groundlings offer scheduled tours every second Saturday, whilst private tours for groups of 10 or more can be arranged on specific days and times in addition to the scheduled ones.
