About
The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service hosts the UK’s biggest and most prestigious rescue competition this September.
The United Kingdom Rescue Organisation (UKRO) 'Festival of Rescue' sees expert teams of firefighters from 28 UK fire services (as well as three international teams) test their skills across a variety of challenging scenarios. Teams will compete to be the best at vehicle extrication, rope rescue from height, water rescue, and trauma care. There will also be a fire cadets’ challenge and dog demonstration.
Members of the public visiting Gunwharf Quays and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, or walking along the River Itchen (near Eastleigh Rugby Club) will be able to watch all the action, learning more about the skills and equipment used and cheering on the teams taking part.
The festival celebrates the skills, dedication and devotion of firefighting heroes, who put their lives on the line to keep the public safe from harm on a daily basis. It provides a national stage to shine a spotlight on to those specialist disciplines that prove critical during real life incidents and emergencies.
Don't miss the action-packed programme with events for all of the family. It will also provide an opportunity for visitors to learn more about the fire and rescue service - everything from recruitment through to fire safety.
