Looking for a fun and creative way to spend a Saturday with the whole family? Aspex Portsmouth’s Family Saturdays offers a weekly arts and crafts workshop where families of all ages can explore their creativity through hands-on activities inspired by our current exhibitions and projects.
We asked the team at Aspex Portsmouth to explain just why Family Saturdays is so popular and well-loved.
“We love coming to Family Saturdays. The sessions are such a great service to the community, and it’s wonderful to have somewhere to bring our budding little artist!”
From painting and model-making to collaging and inventing, each week brings something new. These relaxed sessions provide the perfect opportunity for families to experiment with different mediums, develop artistic skills, and express themselves in creative ways. Whether your children are discovering new techniques or you’re getting creative together, Family Saturdays fosters a welcoming environment where participants of all ages and abilities can have fun, learn, and connect with others.
“I love bringing my 10- and 12-year-old to these free Saturday sessions. There are always different styles, mediums, and materials to try, and it’s such a beautiful venue with excellent support for the kids.”
More than just an arts and crafts workshop, Family Saturdays is a key part of Aspex Portsmouth’s creative engagement programme, which aims to foster learning, connection, and inclusivity within the community. It’s an opportunity for families to build friendships with other parents and children in a nurturing, safe space.
As a registered charity with over 40 years of bringing new art and ideas to Portsmouth, Aspex is committed to providing accessible experiences for the community. As a free-entry venue, with donations welcomed, we aim to reduce barriers to participation for everyone.
“Me and my daughter love visiting Aspex for Family Saturdays. It’s a way for her to be creative without the usual limitations at home.”
Family Saturdays are free to attend, with a suggested donation of just £3 per family to help cover delivery and materials. All materials are provided, so all you need to bring is your imagination!
The sessions take place every Saturday from 11am to 1pm in the Communal Space at Aspex Portsmouth, located in Gunwharf Quays. No booking is required - simply drop in! Please note, there is a limited capacity of 30 participants per session. Once capacity is reached, there may be a short wait.
So why not get creative with the family this Saturday at Family Saturdays?
