A weaved hanging decoration made on a loom

About

Join textile artist Alice Hume for an introduction to frame loom weaving.

The workshop takes place at Porters Lodge in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard on 30 November, 10am to 4pm. Entry is £85, which includes all materials.

Learn how to weave using a wooden frame lap loom. Students will learn how to make their own fabric; warp their own loom; and finish and create their own woven wall-hanging or decorative fabric. The project will have a focus on texture, pattern and colour.

The workshop covers soumak, experimenting with 2-3 colours in one row and ways to create shapes and tassels.

Alice has won a platinum award with Craft Courses and has 179 five-star reviews for her workshops.

Materials that will be provided include a home-made Hume Loom, tools and a variety of yarns. Optional: feel free to bring along strips of fabrics, beads or anything with which you want to experiment. Looms are for course use only, but will be available to purchase at the end of the workshop.
