About
Join Sally Port Tours for a fun filled and interactive event delving into the fascinating history of shanties! Learn about the origins of these sea songs and their significance to sailors throughout history.
Led by professional singer and songwriter Jack Boyd, the event will include group singing sessions where guests can feel the camaraderie of singing along with others. Some of The Black Swans will be there to help with harmonies and boost your joining in confidence but note, you don't have to sing unless you want to.
Song books will be provided.
Shanty songs were sung by merchant sailors in order to keep the repetitive work of hauling ropes etc. to a rhythm. Whilst the verses were generally sung by the shanty man the choruses were sung by all.
Whether you're a seasoned shanty enthusiast or a curious newcomer, this event promises to be a memorable experience for all!
This event takes place in the back room of the Sally Port Inn on Thursday 29 May, from 6.15pm to 8pm.
