About

Join Sally Port Tours for a night of sea shanties and maritime history!

Join professional singer Jack Boyd - an acclaimed shanty man and renowned, knowledgeable folk singer - on Thursday 13 March at 6.15pm at The Sally Port Inn, to dive into The History of Shanty.

Sing along and explore the origins and significance of these traditional work songs. Don't miss out on the chance to participate in some choruses with the group!

Shanty songs were sung by merchant sailors in order to keep the repetitive work of hauling ropes etc. to a rhythm. Whilst the verses were generally sung by the shanty man the choruses were sung by all.
