About
All together now: "The holly and the ivy…"!
It's that time of year again; there are a good selection of berries to be found on Portsdown Hill, including spindle, rose hips and sloes. Actually, a sloe is a drupe not a berry - go along for the walk and see the difference. A drupe is a fleshy fruit with one seed whilst a berry has many. Plus, there'll be pomes as well, like apples, which have a tough central core containing the seeds.
The walk will be led by Richard Jones, Portsmouth Countryside Officer.
There is limited parking at the fort and more at the nearby viewpoint.
Attendees are advised to be prepared for all weather with windproof, waterproof, warm jackets and walking boots. Please note this walk is not suitable for pushchairs.
