Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler were having dinner together at a hotel in the New Forest. Irene had to leave early and wished Sherlock goodbye as she walked off to her country house. Later as Sherlock walked toward the train station, he crossed a bridge and saw blood spots. He started to investigate using his magnifying glass and found more blood spots, as well as part of a ripped jacket. Something caught his eye in the water. As he climbed down the bank of the river to look, he discovered Irene Adler’s dead body. The ripped jacket had part of a school badge on it.
Sherlock got a group of street boys named the Baker Street Irregulars to go undercover at the local school. They found out that Sherlock’s arch enemy- Professor Moriarty was working there as a teacher. The ripped jacket hanging on his peg made Sherlock even more suspicious.
Sherlock disguised himself as a substitute teacher to find out more about what Moriarty was up to. Moriarty was followed and was found meeting up with Eugenia Ronder. They were overheard and Moriarty told her that the murder had taken place. Eugenia was pleased to hear that she was now rid of her love rival, as she had been jealous and wanted Irene out of the way.
A plan was made to go and catch Moriarty and Eugenia. Sherlock and the Baker Street Irregulars took the Hound of the Baskervilles with them down to the New Forest. As they approached the river bank to catch both villains, Eugenia bolted and got onto a boat. The hound gave chase, then bit Moriarty by the trousers, however Eugenia escaped and sailed off down the river.
The thick dark smoke smothered the night sky as the Hound of the Baskerville lead sherlock to the bridge. He found a blazing fire in an abandoned carriage. Sherlock was filled with curiosity, so he approached carefully and observed. He spotted a figure which was lying face down in the back of the carriage. The horses were nowhere to be found. The strong smell of alcohol filled Sherlock’s nostrils. “Maybe this was a drunken accident?” thought Sherlock.
At that moment he snapped back into action. He collected the horses’ feeding bucket and filled it with river water. He began to battle the hissing fire and soon enough the fire was put out.
Cautiously Sherlock began to investigate the scene. He soon realised that the body belonged to the baker, that he had met the week before. His corpse was burnt badly, but still identifiable. Sherlock whipped out his magnifying glass to view the body very closely. Sherlock visited the bakery to tell the Baker’s wife about the tragic death of her husband. She seemed to behave in a suspicious manner, so Sherlock made sure he had a good look around the house. He saw blood on a box that was under the table.
Sherlock concluded that the wife had killed her husband in the bakery. She borrowed the carriage and crashed it on the bridge. She then set fire to it and dumped his body inside. She framed it to look like an accident and she even spilt alcohol inside to make it seem like her husband was drunk. Inspector Lestrade was called in the wife was sent to jail for many years.
