Les Quincailliers de la Franco Midland (The ironmongers of Franco Midland) are the Sherlock Holmes Society of France founded in 1993. Its purpose is to gather together all French speaking fans of Sherlock Holmes and to highlight links between Sherlock Holmes and France.
When it was created, the Sherlock Holmes Society of France chose to take the name of the Quincailliers of Franco-Midland from The Adventures of the Stockbroker's Clerk. Looking for French references in the Sherlock stories, the society found a hardware store, the Franco-Midland, in Birmingham, England, whose whole activity is in France - "The Franco-Midland Hardware Company, Limited, with one hundred and thirty-four branches in the towns and villages of France, not counting one in Brussels and one in San Remo."
